Messages of Appreciation

Maybe you had an interaction with a Calgary Police Service member that you would like to thank them for, or maybe you’d just like to show your support? Regardless, we need your help to let the members of the Calgary Police Service know what they mean to Calgarians. It is our hope that these messages – long or short – uplift all CPS members and provide hope in times of darkness.

I’m an elementary school teacher, and one day my class was outside playing a game of kickball. As we played a police car came around the corner, and pulled up. The two officers came out and joined us in our game. To say the kids were thrilled would be an understatement!! Here were these two heroes in my students eyes, taking the time to play, cheer and just have fun. It was the highlight of our day, and we talked about it for a long time afterwards. It just showed them that police officers care not only about keeping us safe, but also about them as kids. Amazing, upstanding role models, I’m so grateful for that moment.

Thank you for all you do for us. Your job can seem thankless at times and you have been through some trying times. This city, this country, would not be what they are without the work you do.

I am so grateful to the organizers of Beacons of Hope for standing up for our police members. There is too much negativity and they have a loud voice. It’s events like Beacons of Hope that allow the louder positive voice to be heard.

It’s wonderful that this has become an annual event. I’ll be there May 13th with my family. I’ll be there to support our officers, to have some fun and to remember why Calgary is such a great city.

Living in East Village I see your work on a daily basis. Your presence and patience is greatly appreciated and highly valued. Officers on foot, on bikes, in vehicles and, as a first sign of spring last week, on horseback – I’m grateful to all of you for the work you do under often difficult conditions.

Dear Calgary police officers, past and present,

I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation for all that you do. Growing up, the police played a crucial role in my life, our lives as a family and looking back, I realize just how important you all were and continue to be today.

Even though the visits were often due to difficult situations involving neighbors or family members, I have always felt a strange sense of gratitude towards you. I was afraid that you would take someone away, but I knew it was necessary. It’s now clear to me that these situations were also painful and difficult for everyone involved, including the police, counselors, lawyers, and paramedics who assist in times of distress.

Your calling is not an easy one, but it is one of the most important. You provide safety, guidance, clarity, and security, and often just someone to talk to or a feeling of safety, which is invaluable. And wow is that ever tough sometimes. Thank you thank you thank you.

As I reflect on those difficult times, I am forever grateful for the safety and comfort the Calgary police service and all of the connected groups offered us. You were our light in the darkness, our hope, and for that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Your dedication to our city and its citizens is immeasurable, and I am inspired by your commitment to making a difference. You are true heroes, and I am proud to be a part of a community that has such incredible men and women serving and protecting us.

Thank you for all that you do. Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed, and your impact is immeasurable. You are the backbone of our community, and we are forever grateful. And every once in a while, more often than we probably know or your hear, a family like ours comes our the other end as a family that’s stronger and more connected and closer than ever and wanting to support and give back and be a small flicker of light and hope for anyone we can. It’s through the tough times that we can find the good people and the people that care. Here’s to a brighter future together.

With utmost gratitude and respect,
Positively
Dennis Plintz

Constable Hooker is the investigator for my online police report for the theft of my mother’s gold necklace. My mom is in long term care, is very elderly, blind, has dementia and is in a wheelchair. Constable Hooker has been keeping me informed of the progress of the investigation. He is very compassionate and empathetic in regard to what has happened with my mom’s gold chain that my dad (now deceased) bought her many years ago. She has never taken it off of her neck since she got it. Constable Hooker and I met this week to discuss the case. In conversation, he told me that his wife was sorting through some of her jewellery as they are downsizing, and she gave him 2 gold chains to give to me for my mom in the hope that they would bring her some comfort, as both he and his wife have been through dementia with their elderly parents. I was so touched by this gesture of kindness and caring from Constable Hooker and his wife – when I took the necklace to my mom and put it on her, she was comforted as she knows her necklace was taken in October. Constable Hooker is a very kind soul and an officer who truly cares about the community. In gratitude, Jane Hanson.

I recently made a non-emergency call to police because a homeless person had chosen to sleep behind our place on a cool winters night. They answered the call and spoke very respectfully about such an individual. The police then arrived within 15 – 20 minutes and the situation was addressed without creating any commotion. I was pleased with the timely and respectful manner in which our concern was addressed. Thanks.

Thank you Beacons of Hope (BOH)and Calgarians for our challenge coins and candles that we officers recently received at the District offices. It is a great symbol of light during times of darkness.

I understand each officer has a BOH coin and a member of the public out there somewhere has one with a matching number. My coin # is 1306 and I invite whomever out there has the matching counterpart to please email me at [email protected] so I can thank you for your support and buy you a coffee.

Cordially,

I just wanted to pass along my sincere Thanks to Mr. McCann and Mr. McDonough for their extraordinary efforts in this initiative. After 20+ years of policing, I can attest to the recent challenges to stay motivated in my service to the public. Police have been under intense scrutiny over the past few years. The frustrating part is that the men and women I work with are only deserving of praise. There are a very few examples of police wrong doing. I want to ensure you that we stand together to denounce those instances. “Bad Cops” are an embarrassment to the uniform and the community. It will not be tolerated. The public are becoming aware that much of the bad publicity that police organizations face is a form of manipulation by “gas lighting” and peddling misinformation. Like the public, I am forced to look beneath the surface to understand the facts before coming to any conclusion.

I received my challenge coin today, #2518. I am left wondering which supportive member of the community shares this coin. To them I offer my additional Thanks. Your support, and the support of Beacons of Hope, reminds me of how important it is to serve this community as a police officer. Every decision I make, every action I take, is done in consideration of this community. My goal remains keeping Calgarians safe when and where I can. I am always “on duty”.

I would like to give my warmest regards and deepest thanks to the great Men and Women of Valor whom have sworn to protect and serve with utmost righteousness all whom reside within our most spectacular City of Calgary. May they lead with courageous hearts and monumentous strength while baring their shields in such a manor in which our people may find shelter and embrace the feeling of safety while standing behind them in support. If any feel let down, let me reassure you that it will not be in vein. Things will work out in the end. That I am certain. It will work itself out. I am proud to be Canadian. Hang in there troupes, we got your backs. I for one, solute you ALL!

As an immigrant from India that hugely enjoys freedom of press, our experiences with police there don’t compare with police here. So, I know the value, honesty, public service of the CPS. You deserve our full and highest respect. And yes, like everywhere, there are few rotten apples. I take that as a fact of life and a statistical reality. Respected officers, thank you very much for your service and please please don’t pay much attention to those who are just playing politics and enhancing their own interests – much of what they ply like race etc. is not the experience and lived realities of the minorities. Keep wearing the blue line patch.

Each time police officers are on duty, they risk their lives. MANY have given their lives protecting us. They’re our heroes! Do we do anything in appreciation? Beacons of Hope is a good reminder for us to do so. How about thanking God for them each time we see them on the streets, in the news, each time we pass by police stations. Their families need them. We need them. God gave them to us!

During this first Beacons of Hope I met Chief of Police Mark Neufeld and his wife, Lynn, and officer S. Stinton. People were very happy as they made themselves available to chat

CPS is the best! I can’t help but think they honour God hence they’re here for us. Let’s also honour them in whatever way you want to – not only during Beacons of Hope but ALWAYS. God bless them all! I hope we do Beacons of Hope EVERY YEAR!

Police saved my life when they arrested me. I was a mess and would have killed someone or myself. When the police arrested me I went to prison took all advantage of all programs. Thanks to CPS. I now do presentations sharing my story with thousands of youth here in Alberta. CPS changes lives every single day for the better.

Good policing is an essential factor in any successful society .
Police work often goes unacknowledged and sometime not appreciated. I know first hand how our police deals with most difficult issues every single day. Police takes the risk to help and protect others. More important than ever, citizens in Canada must support the police. Calgary once was the safest city in Canada ( one million people or more). I always stop when I see a police officer to say thank you for the work they do to keep us safe. I encourage all Calgarian to do the same. Take a minute of your time and thank them for the work they do every single day to keep us safe.

Thank you so much for your hard work each and every day. It has been said before, but we are the silent majority who are so grateful for your dedication, sacrifice and service. It is often a thankless job, and more often than not, we don’t know the dangers you have protected us from each and every day. You put yourself in harms way to protect strangers, neighbors, and sometimes friends. You live the unimaginable and get up the next morning to do it all over again. Thank you cannot clearly express the depth of our gratitude to each and every one of you. May God bless you abundantly with strength, wisdom, courage, and peace for a much needed sleep. With a grateful heart. ❤️

Thank you Murray and Jackson for thinking of this initiative. We all depend on the Police for our protection, yet rarely get the opportunity to thank them for their work.

Thank you to the members of the Police Service and the RCMP for your work. It is much appreciated!
