Messages of Appreciation

Maybe you had an interaction with a Calgary Police Service member that you would like to thank them for, or maybe you’d just like to show your support? Regardless, we need your help to let the members of the Calgary Police Service know what they mean to Calgarians. It is our hope that these messages – long or short – uplift all CPS members and provide hope in times of darkness.

When I read of the difficulties and challenges that cities throughout North America are experiencing with their police forces, I am grateful for the high standards and professionalism of the CPS, and the high respect in which they are held throughout our community. We live in a amazing city, and despite some of the challenges that come with growth, we are so fortunate that our city is so safe and secure, when compared with other cities of similar size, in such very large part due to the men and women of the Calgary Police Service.
I love how you are also such great ambassadors for our city- it is wonderful to see you downtown wearing your cowboy hats, stopping, talking and posing for photos with visitors.
Thanks to each and every one of you for your service to our community.

Despite working very long hours in a usually thankless job – and suffering PTSD for his trouble — my brother loves being a police officer. He’s off right now trying to recuperate to hopefully get back on the job as soon as possible because he loves it so much. He loves helping people, fighting for justice and just ‘doing the right thing.’ While he is not with the Calgary service, I have a good idea of what our police officers deal with every day and we can not do enough to support them. Back the Blue!

I am so thankful and grateful for the awesome police service we have in Calgary. After taking the Citizen’s Police Academy course a few years ago, it certainly gave me a new perspective on all they do. They have been there for me on a few occasions during my many years in Calgary. So God’s blessings to you all and keep up the good work.

I want to express my sincere appreciation for all the Calgary Police force does for our city. They need to be recognized in the most positive way. My son has two good friends who are police officers so I do hear some of the challenges they face every day. Our family is here to support you, each and every day! Thank you for all you do!

I have wanted to thank someone but until now have not had a vehicle to do so.
We are senior citizens. One evening last year my wife and I went grocery shopping. We got home and I emptied the hatchback of groceries. Later in the evening we went to bed. In the middle of the night I got up in my underwear for some reason. As I stepped into the kitchen there was a police officer standing in my front door entrance.
I had left the attached garage door open, the hatchback of the car open, and the front door open. Apparently one of the neighbors had called the police (Whom I need to thank, but I don’t know who that was).
I have to admire the courage of this officer doing the welfare check. Entering a dark house in the middle of the night. Who knows what kind of deranged individual he might encounter. (I think I certainly qualified in my underwear and still mostly asleep). I would like to thank the police for their courage to do this and will try to keep my stuff together so that it doesn’t happen again.

I am so very pleased and happy to see Beacons of Hope express what the majority of Calgarians feel, despite the rhetoric on the media.
We love and admire and respect our Boys in Blue. We know we have the best of the best here in Calgary who go out of their way, to do the very best job each and every day.
Don’t get deflated by the groups and media. The public know the truth. Keep doing your excellent work.

As a health care worker, I am witness to CPS members working under very difficult circumstances. I thank you for not only protecting me and my family as Calgarians, but for your compassionate and skilled handling of patients in sometimes their worst hour. As we navigate through this unprecedented times, CPS must be commended for the amazing work you do.
Thank you

I am a victim of stalking. Without the police I would have no peace of mind or feelings of safety. It’s been a difficult 6 years but the police haven’t given up and I am so grateful for that. They are not perfect and have made mistakes but I wouldn’t fault them for being human.

The 20/80 rule pertains to everything – 20% of the population make life, liberty and pursuit of happiness for the other 80% of the population difficult. Police officers are immersed in heinous lifestyle of this 20% and I for one am so appreciate for their chosen sacrifices to keep our 80% safe and able to enjoy what we have. Without them life would be total anarchy. We need more of these amazing people not less and they deserve wages and benefits to exceed those of sports heroes. Sports heroes provide entertainment, police officers provide safety and protection from the criminal element for everyone.

I can’t say enough about CPS members. Quite a number of them are friends and/or members I have had the pleasure of working with during my time as a contractor with CPS (APU & STEU). Many of these officers have become mentors to me, which I am honoured to have.
The impact so many officers are making in our community and within the ranks, makes me proud of them and the service they represent. Having strong, positive personalities is what CPS needs to be role models to those around them, including, but not limited to superiors, co-workers, kids, families, friends, family members & students.
Thank you to all of you for what you do and the impact to have had, not just in my career, but to those you make connections with everyday.

To all the men and women who work to keep us safe, thank you. You have helped our family throughout the years, polite and caring. Our youngest member has taken part in the CPS summer camp and loved every minute of it. A great community outreach to show our children the hard work the police do and that the police are people just like they are. As we hear sirens or hear the HAWCS helicopter, we say a prayer for protection. We need you and we do care about you, too. Thank you.

In 2014, my brother attempted to take his own life locked in the bathroom. Two kind and judgement free officers came to help. I was still in high school and my father was overseas leaving me to take on this experience on my own. Calgary Police Officers were able to get my brother out quickly and safely to the hospital, where he was able to stay for a month and adjust his way of living. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t have my little brother still around.

Because of this interaction, I chose to serve, and protect the citizens of Calgary so that I could help families in the way these officers helped mine.

We are all appreciate of the efforts made by Calgary police to keep us safe and secure in our city and on our streets. We sincerely hope that the police will understand that the silent majority are in favour of more support for police and for more RESPECT for police and the hard job they do while keeping us safe and well protected. We would like to see every politicians at City Hall show their strong support for the police and all members of the service. We also would like to support ONE JUSTICE SYSTEM FOR ALL PEOPLE regardless of color and nationality and we have a multicultural society that needs to be reminded that their lives and safety also depend upon showing respect for police and our our laws. We do not wish to see a color coded police or justice system and we would remind everyone to respect our police officials for the wonderful job they do and for the pain and losses they suffer while protecting US.

Our family has had ~5 experiences with the Calgary Police in our 30+ years stay in Calgary. Our police officers have always been polite, professional and kind in our interactions with them. We are grateful to the men and women of the Calgary Police Service for their hard work, dedication and sacrifice in ensuring we have a safe and welcoming city. The last few years have been tough on you. While there are always things that can be improved, please know you are respected and appreciated. Hope messages such as ours help you in your journey to being an even better police service in the years ahead. All the best!

Words alone are not sufficient to express my gratitude to the men and women who choose a life of service to keep all of us safe. As a family member of a serving police officer as well as the spouse of a retired military officer I know the true cost of service to others when the “job” impacts special time with families and friends. Know that you are always appreciated and valued, know that your families support to allow you to put the safety of the citizens of Calgary first does not go unnoticed and know that you are admired for your bravery, professionalism and selfless acts. You make Calgary a great place to call home, be proud of who you are and what you do – always.

I very much appreciate our Calgary Police Service. Many times I’ve observed our police doing their job; interacting with “street people”, directing traffic, providing presence in crowds, flying overhead, and of course responding to any emergency. Many citizens seem to forget that the police are the people who rush to put themselves INTO harms way to protect others. There have also been extenuating circumstances over the last two years where the police have been required to enforce laws that they may have personally objected to. I often think to myself; “that is a job I would not want”. Our police are exposed up close daily to the type of humanity that most of us rarely see. I’m sure there are brighter moments too, but this type of job takes a specific type of person; and I suppose it could also be impactful too, since we are all human. Thank you Calgary Police Service staff, I am grateful for your service! I hope that you hear from many more of us in the “silent majority” who support and appreciate you ?.

As a paramedic, the police have been a welcome sight more times than I could count. Yet the most emotional incident was 10 years ago now. My mom passed and in the midst of chaos, a young male officer kept my 4 year old granddaughter busy and unaware of the situation for at least 2 hours. I never did get his name, but I will never forget his kindness and caring patience.

I have lived 76 years in this city, our police officers have engaged on every level to keep us from becoming a cesspool of criminality and destruction. How can we not appreciate and respect their commitment and endurance. Would you take their place, what they have to see and deal with is too often humanity at their worst yet they show up and stand up for us. They are not paid city employees, if we had to pay them what they are worth we wouldn’t have a force…..Bravo and thank you from this old lady in Erlton.
